The link between car crashes and the flu

Each year, flu season arrives and people worry about the chances of falling ill. While many people are aware of how the flu can make life hard, some do not realize the other ways that being sick could affect their lives. For example, those who are sick with the flu may be more likely to cause a motor vehicle crash. Unfortunately, there are too many drivers who should not be behind the wheel but make the decision to drive anyway, putting their life at risk and the lives of others also.

The flu can cause a person to suffer from various symptoms that could affect their driving ability. For starters, someone who is suffering from serious challenges due to their illness such as a high fever, headache, dizziness, or another symptom may not be able to concentrate or react appropriately while driving. However, there are more ways in which the flu could cause a traffic accident. When someone is not feeling good, they may have a hard time falling asleep. Unfortunately, this can lead to driver fatigue. Additionally, some people consume medications when they are sick, some of which can lead to drowsy driving.

As flu season makes its approach, you should be mindful of these risks, whether you come down with the flu or are worried about other drivers who may be ill. If you have been hit by a driver who was too sick to drive, under the influence of alcohol, or exhibiting another problem that should have kept them off the road, you should look at your legal options right away. By visiting our car accidents page, you will find more on traffic wrecks.
