Is distracted driving more prevalent in certain age groups?

On this blog, we have gone over many of the concerns related to distracted driving, from the consequences of a motor vehicle accident to reasons why drivers become distracted. However, it may also be beneficial to assess distracted driving statistics on various age groups. For example, if you are a parent and are worried about your teenager riding in a vehicle with other teens, if you are a young driver, or if you were struck by a driver who you think was distracted, this information may be useful.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that drivers who are between the ages of 15 and 19 years old are more likely to cause a distracted driving accident than any other age group, according to data from 2015. In fact, information from the same year shows that 9 percent of all drivers belonging to this age group who were part of a deadly crash were distracted when the accident took place. Throughout 2015, drivers from a variety of age groups caused distracted driving crashes which claimed 3,477 lives.

Although distracted driving may be particularly prevalent among younger drivers, it is vital to understand that drivers belonging to all age groups may become distracted on the road. If you were involved in a motor vehicle wreck that occurred because of a driver who was distracted, you should go over your various legal options. Sadly, drivers will continue to take their eyes off the road for a myriad of reasons and cause devastating accidents in the years to come.
