Does age play a role in large truck accidents?

From fatigue to the consumption of alcohol prior to driving, truck accidents occur for countless reasons. These crashes, which are much too prevalent in Connecticut and all across the U.S., often destroy the lives of victims, leaving them with physical, financial and even emotional scars that will never heal. As a result, it is important for truck companies and truckers to realize the different reasons why these crashes happen and focus on prevention.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, 657 people passed away while riding in a large truck during 2014, 90 percent of whom were drivers. However, 3,697 large truck drivers were part of a deadly accident during the same year. Among drivers involved in fatal wrecks, six percent (216) were 66 years old or older, while five percent (202) were no older than 25. Clearly, the statistics show that large truck accidents involve drivers of various ages, some of whom are younger or older. While a driver’s age may not necessarily result in an accident, other factors could play a role in a crash. For example, a driver who does not have very much experience may be more likely to cause an accident.

If you have been hit by a truck driver, your life may seem overwhelming and you could be facing an array of problems. However, you should concentrate on recovering from the wreck as much as you can. If a negligent driver caused the collision, you may also want to explore your legal options and should hold them answerable for their actions.
