How frequent are DUI accidents?

Every driver wants to believe they are safe on the roads. However, when you hit the streets of Connecticut, you should be aware of the fact that your chances of getting into an accident might be higher than you think, as proven by drunk driving statistics.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving has compiled a list of frequently asked questions and general statistics relating to drunk driving accidents and arrests across the nation. It includes rather alarming information, such as the fact that two out of every three people will likely be involved in a crash that has to do with drunk driving at some point in their lifetime. Additionally, it shines light on the repeat offender problem, showing that between fifty to seventy-five percent of people arrested for DUIs will keep driving on a suspended license.

Another chilling fact is that the average person arrested for DUI is not driving drunk for the first time. Their first DUI arrest is generally just the first time that they have ever been caught. While DUI related deaths and injuries have dropped over time, statistics still show that roughly 27 people die every day in accidents involving alcohol. This is quite a high number, and it's something for you to keep in mind when you get on the road.

There are signs that you can watch out for while you are driving that may indicate a drunk driver is nearby. Not all accidents can be predicted or prevented, but being aware of their frequency may help you to prepare for the potential of one.
