More than a year ago, the world reacted in horror to the news of comedian Tracy Morgan’s serious injuries, and his friend James McNair’s tragic death, after a truck accident on the New Jersey Turnpike. Truck accidents continue to be a problem in Connecticut as well as the rest of the country. Mr. Morgan’s experience serves as a sobering example of the ongoing medical problems that a person can face after being injured in a truck crash.
Recently, Mr. Morgan and the other victims of the accident reached a settlement with Walmart, the employer of the truck driver who was determined to be at fault for the collision. The terms of the settlement have been kept private, although many of those in the legal field agree that the amount is most likely significant. Mr. Morgan stated that he is happy with the settlement results and that the case was resolved amicably.
To recap the devastating crash, the truck driver was said to have been driving 65 miles per hour down the Turnpike and didn’t notice traffic had slowed ahead, when he crashed into Mr. Morgan’s limousine bus. Mr. Morgan received broken ribs, broken leg bones, a broken nose and a severe traumatic brain injury. Those close to him have said that the TBI may continue to impact him for the rest of his life and significantly impact his career.
The Walmart truck driver was charged with assault by auto and vehicular homicide. This case illustrates how people injured in a truck accident may pursue compensation against those who are negligent.
