Reported drunk driving accident kills 1, injures 3 in Connecticut

Once again drunk driving has proven fatal on a Connecticut highway. A young man was charged with drunk driving following a car accident that killed one person and left two other people injured.

The driver and his two passengers were returning from a bar, driving northbound on Interstate 95. Their vehicle crashed into a state Thruway Authority pickup causing it to roll onto its side. A passenger in the driver's vehicle was killed. Another passenger suffered critical injuries in the incident.

The state Thruway Authority employee who was parked on the shoulder, close to the Interstate 287 entrance, was also taken to the hospital for injuries, as was the alleged drunk driver.

The fatal accident held up traffic on I-95 for over five hours, through the course of the early morning hours.

It is an unfortunate reality that innocent people have to pay for the carelessness of others. However, the law affords victims the right to seek compensation from negligent drivers for medical expenses, damages for destroyed property, and more. Every driver has the duty to exercise reasonable care when operating a vehicle, and this means no drinking and driving.

Police are focusing on the actions of the driver as the primary cause of the accident, including both alcohol use and potential speeding. State police are requesting assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the crash to offer details into the incident .

Drunk drivers are a danger to themselves, their passengers and others on the roads. They should be held accountable for their actions.
